All debit and credit card holders in India must have an ?extra level of authentication? to be able to transact online using their cards. The objective of this mandate is to make online transactions safe and secure.

This authentication is basically a password that you will have to enter after entering your credit/debit card details while making online payments. This password needs to be created by you at your card issuing bank website. You can create the password anytime that you desire. It hardly takes a few seconds.You can follow the bank links provided here.

Please note that you won?t be able to use your debit / credit card online after 1st November, 2009 unless you create this password.

If you have already created this password you can continue using your debit / creditcard to transact online. Just enter your password when you?re asked for it during the payment process.
